DOOResidency is a non-profit organisation focusing on activities fostering artistic experimentation and collaborative practices within the field of contemporary art.

Through re-purposing vacant and underused buildings we set up unconventional spaces for creative projects.

Our programme concentrates on ephemeral, site-specific and conceptual art.

Established in 2021 in Amsterdam by DOOR Foundation.

MISSION

Our residency is imagined to leave a lasting impact on participants’ ongoing development and future undertakings.

Multifaceted interactions, including peer-to-peer engagement, mentoring, gatherings, studio visits, and the final exhibition, not only broaden their professional network but also enhance their career prospects.

As hosts, we recognize how the horizontal interaction established during the residency ensures mutual benefits for both parties. The exchange becomes a catalyst for expanding our own visions and opportunities, paving the way for future projects yet to be developed

THE BUILDING

We facilitate non-commercial art projects in our 3000m² building Magazijn De Dood, located in a former military facility at the Hembrugterrein, Zaandam.

Magazijn de Dood is a historical, industrial building dating back to 1928 which, along with other properties on the Hembrugterrein premises, used to be a part of the ammunition production facility for the Dutch Ministry of Defense.

It spans across 1000m², scoping from natural light to full blackout.
